"I wanted to design a set of decorative items for my collection, something that would be very traditionally Finnish. Our culture is surprisingly rich in things to draw from, like elves and gnomes. They are mysterious and even a bit scary creatures, but they mean well.
We have preserved many stories about what they look like, but no one really knows exactly. I think modern times have popularised them, diluted the character and smoothed out the edges. That's why I wanted to make my characters a bit referential and even dreamlike."
