Description

The Frendi sofa bed combines the functionality of a traditional daybed with modern Scandinavian design. During the day it functions as a comfortable sofa and at night it easily converts into a spacious bed without any complicated mechanisms. This makes it an excellent choice for both the living room and the guest room.

The frame is made of durable solid oak and the slats are made from pine for sturdiness and longevity. The beige upholstery is 100% polyester and has a 100,000 Martindale abrasion resistance for durability in everyday use. In addition, the sofa's bolster pillows neatly conceal a mattress protector, a generously sized blanket and four pillows (included in the price).

The Frendi sofa has been awarded the 2020 International GOOD DESIGN® Award for its outstanding design and innovation. This sofa bed is designed to stand the test of time and use, bringing comfort and style to any home.

Where the idea for Frendi -sofa bed came from?

"Our sofa bed family also needed a new second cousin that was a little narrower than the other sofa bed models. This way we could offer our customers a sofa bed option that fits even better in smaller spaces. Tapio was assigned to start thinking about the design"

Designing the Frendi -sofa bed

"I decided that this sofa bed would be a traditional pull-out sofa bed. Lightness was an important starting point and I didn't want my customers to have to deal with clumsy mechanisms that wear out. The slat bases slide into each other when the sofa is opened and closed. The end result was a graceful, slightlydaybed-like sofa bed. The bedding comes with the sofa bed, now rolled into round back cushions with leather handles for moving them."

Frendi -sofa bed in use

Thanks to its size, the sofa bed works well in small spaces. Our customers have used sofas in guest rooms, study rooms, second homes, sauna cabins, living rooms and studio apartments, but also in the living rooms of large apartments. It easily converts into a double bed or into a wide single bed and back again to a sofa.

A story behind the Frendi -sofa bed

"We were together with Hetki Sauna in the courtyard of the Berlin Embassy at Die Sauna event. We decorated the changing room area with our furniture, which was very small. I was really surprised how well it worked and the space didn't feel cramped at all. The sofa bed fitted in perfectly. Another surprise was that the German guests, without a care in the world, threw their clothes in the yard and went straight to the sauna."

Manufacturing the Frendi -sofa bed

We have the wood and upholstery parts of the sofa bed made by two different contract manufacturers. The method is a combination of serial production and craftsmanship. Machines are needed to make the wooden parts, but the finishing is a collaboration between the human eye and hand. All the upholstery is handmade. To guarantee quality, our manufacturer makes all the bedding in-house.

The sofa bed has been awarded the international GOOD DESIGN award. The jury appreciated not only the simplicity and uniqueness of the design, but also the functionality and practicality in small spaces as a sofa bed. An added value was the ingenious placement of the bedding on the back cushions.

Hieno huonekalu parilla miinuksella

Kaikkiaan hieno tuote, mutta… Olisin kaivannut selvät paikat, mihin ruuvit tulee metallijalkojen puuosissa ja selkänojissa. Ohjeissa nämä oli esillä kuten videolla, mutta ei tuotteessa. Vuodesohvan jatko-osan ja sohvan väliin jäi noin puolen sentin rako vaikka kaikki osat oli oikein laitettu ja tarkistettu.

Frendi vuodesohva

Frendi vuodesohva ylitti odotukset niin laadullisesti kuin ulkonäöllisestikin. Sohva on erittäin helppokäyttöinen sekä toimiva. Vielä odotamme ensimmäisiä kavereita testaamaan sitä, mutta uskoisin heidän olevan siihen varsin tyytyväisiä.

Kaunis ja kätevä vuodesohva

Pidän vuodesohvan harmoonisesta ja kauniista designista sekä siitä, että sitä voi käyttää sekä ryhdikkäänä ”seurustelusohvana”
että ”löhöilypesänä”, kun sitä hieman levittää. Sänky on testattu myös varavuoteena ja vieraat kommentoivat, että hyvät unet siinä saa.
