Where the idea for Day&Night chair bed came from?

"After the sofa bed, we quickly received feedback from customers about the need for a like-minded chair bed. I think it was quite easy for Tapio to design it because the concept of the sofa bed was ready and well proven"

Designing the Day&Night chair bed

"The design of the chair bed was a natural extension of the range. In practice, it is exactly half the size of the sofa, allowing us to use the same back cushions, which hide the bedding for one sleeper. I think this was one of the few design projects where we only had to make one prototype."

Day&Night chair bed in use

The chair bed works on the same principle as the sofa bed, except that it becomes just one bed. The bedding for one person is in the back cushions. The chair bed can naturally be used in even smaller spaces than the sofa bed. The areas of use are pretty much the same; guest rooms and studies, but why not the living room if you need an easy extra bed. A chair bed can also solve accommodation problems in second homes and sauna houses.

A story behind the Day&Night chair bed

"At a trade show, we organised a world record competition for setting up a chair bed. The idea was to open the chair bed into a bed and remove the bedding from the back cushions. The time is measured until you are lying on the bed with your head on the pillow and the blanket on. I won by a landslide and set a new world record - exactly 1 minute!"

Manufacturing the Day&Night chair bed

We have the wood and upholstery parts of the chair bed made by two different contract manufacturers. The method is a combination of serial production and craftsmanship. Machines are needed to make the wooden parts, but the finishing is a collaboration between the human eye and hand. All the upholstery is handmade. To guarantee quality, our manufacturer makes all the bedding in-house.

Amazing product

We wanted a comfortable bed and a good looking timeless arm chair in same piece of furniture. The bed should also have standard dimensions and be comfortable and good looking even when used as bed version.
These features combined in one product is really demanding..
THIS chair bed has all these features and much more! The design has a great finish and is very functional. Two great products in one that works perfect in its both shapes. Also the equipment of bedding set as a part of the design is innovative.
Like the design a lot, a unique piece of Finnish design. My best recommendations!
